“An absolute thrill to hear The Dotted Halves nail this often overlooked period of jazz.”
— Peter Baylor
WHo are the dotted halves?
The Dotted Halves played their first show as a trio in early 2017, though the three musicians have been collaborating together for over a decade in groups such as The Cangelosi Cards, The New Wonders, and Naomi & Her Handsome Devils. As musical scholars with a passion for history, they have deeply immersed themselves into the dark corners of jazz from the 1920s, 30s & 40s with the intent of capturing the spirit of music they love and injecting it into their own expressive performances. In addition to their foundation of swing era standards and borrowed Nat King Cole Trio arrangements, the group also performs rarely heard guitar features from the early days of jazz in the style of Nick Lucas and Eddie Lang, punctuated by the occasional Scott Joplin ragtime piano classic or intermittent Memphis Jug Band blues number sung in 3-part harmony. Based in NYC and Chicago, The Dotted Halves are: Jake Sanders (Guitar), Jared Engel (Bass) and Dalton Ridenhour (Piano).
